Introduction to American Tribal Style Belly Dance®
The 3-hr workshop that consists of the dance fundamental movements of American Tribal Style® belly dance according to the Fat Chance® Format. This includes learning formations and being able to improvise dance on the spot with these basic movements. ATS® Hair, Make Up & Costuming 2 hrs: Want to get that ATS® look and tips on how to build your collection? This workshop is for you. Learn the tips and tricks to tying a turban, various kinds of bustles, and embellishments. We will touch upon the proper application of makeup for stage, outdoors and the incorporation of tribal marks, bindis and other adornments.
Zils Demystified
Finger Cymbals for belly dancers: 2 hr workshop that allows students to learn how to play basic rhythms with Zils (finger cymbals) and incorporate simple movements while playing the instrument.
Hear the Music, Feel the BeatConcepts in music: 2 hr workshop that explores how to "listen" to music to find nuances that will accentuate your performance. The Category is.... FACE 2hrs: The art of expression. How to show emotion in your dance and connect with the audience. This workshops explores overcoming anxiety, facing your fears and being in the moment not only on stage but in class with your classmates. Work that Skirt! 2 hrs: Skirtwork suitable for ATS (R) using Flamenco/Rumba fusion movements to add fuego to your repetoire.
The ATS Intensive
- Level 1 - runs for 3 consecutive weeks, each class being 2hrs, offers more detailed instruction and breakdown of Level 1 movements, simple cues, formations, combinations and includes an introduction to finger cymbals.
- Level 2 - runs for 4 consecutive weeks, each class being 2hrs, offers more detailed instruction and breakdown of Level 2 movements, advanced cues, formations, combinations and includes an introduction movement with special zil pattern. (Prerequisite: knowledge & execution of Level 1 movements, including zils)
- Level 3 - runs for 3 consecutive weeks, each class being 2hrs, offers more detailed instruction and breakdown of Level 3 movements, complex cues, formations, combinations and includes an introduction movement with special zil patterns. Also, an introduction of Tribe Hamsa and Manhattan Tribal Signature combos. (Prerequisite: knowledge & execution of Level 1 & 2 movements, including zils).
Introduction to Balancing
Includes the use of swords, baskets and/or trays (candle or other). Useful in all genres of belly dance. This workshop explores the use of music (fast and slow) and prop as one. Also information regarding the care and maintenance of your prop. During this class, there will be some floor work, please bring knee pads or a yoga mat. (Prerequisite: knowledge & execution of Level 1-3 movements, including zils).
